The Peninsula Hotel Group has chosen ESPA as a partner in the development of its spas. The first opening to take place under this relationship was at the flagship property, The Peninsula Hong Kong. The ESPA created spa opened in May, 2006.
The Peninsula's brief was to create a very private and personal experience for every guest, extending The Peninsula's tradition of luxurious comfort and the blend of the best of Eastern and Western hospitality customs into the spa world. Working alongside Hong Kong designers Chhada Siembieda Leung and The Peninsula's own operational team, ESPA have been involved in every aspect of the creation of the spa concept, design, pre-opening and operation and will continue as managers of the spa.
Located on the 7th and 9th floors of the hotel, the spa aesthetic has deep roots in classical Chinese design featuring local granite, renewable tropical hardwoods and bronze throughout. Partially seen bamboo plantings inspired by a misty Yunan forest provide a connection to nature in this private retreat in the heart of Kowloon.
The treatment suites have private showers and ensuite facilities as well as customized and comfortable foot ritual seating.
Both the single and double luxury suites have private harbour views as well as individual steam showers, luxurious baths that take advantage of the view, ensuite facilities and personal relaxation areas.
The Asian Tea Lounge is surrounded by a crystal water wall and is a contemplative oasis in the heart of the spa. The male and female thermal suites feature black slate flooring and rich chocolate and gold mosaic tile walls. The sauna view is kept discreet through clever positioning of wood latticing and the steam rooms feature unique panels that evoke the tradition of latticed windows in traditional Chinese architecture.
