Situated on the banks of Scotland's beautiful Loch Lomond at the Clan Colquhoun estate, the Loch Lomond Golf Club embodies a way of life concerned with nature, history and outdoor sports. Set within the grounds and surrounded by the sheltering stones of an historic walled garden, The Spa in the Walled Garden is a private retreat for Club members.

ESPA developed the Spa concept drawing on the elegance of the Club's Georgian architecture and the understated yet luxurious promise of a private country house as seen through modern eyes.  Local architects, The William Cowie Partnership, and American Interior Designers, Vallone Design, placed an emphasis on comfort, quality of local materials, craftsmanship and sophistication. ESPA were brought in at the onset of the project for concept design and technical support and were retained through to staff recruitment and training and the pre-opening stages of the project and will continue with a management contract for the Spa.

The dramatic entrance to the spa is a floating glass box loggia framed by a pear orchard on three sides and the original stone garden wall on the other.  Passing through the loggia to the interior of the spa, the columns and vaulted ceilings are skillfully lighted by award-winning Lighting Design International. There is almost a cloistered quality to the spa due to the simple use of local materials: granite slab and oak plank flooring; plaster ceilings and walls lighted by iron wall sconces and chandeliers holding candles. Many rooms are warmed by fireplaces, tapestries and upholstered leather or flannel wall paneling.

The presence of the surrounding garden is everywhere evident and each treatment room features its own private garden, protected by a yew hedge, each with an individually selected fountain and sculpture. Stephen J White, who has received many medals from the Chelsea Flower Show, was commissioned to design the garden.

The Spa opened in September, 2006.
